If you’re ever in Zimbabwe, don’t miss the chance to take a swim in The Devil’s Pool, a small lagoon, enclosed by rocks, on the edge of one of the biggest, most beautiful waterfalls in the world, Victoria Falls. Set on Livingstone Island, at a height of 103 meters, Devil’s Pool is definitely one of the most surreal locations on Earth.

During the months of September and December, people can swim as close as possible to the edge of the falls without falling over.

I would be hella terrified to be even close to the edge. Do YOU trust your siblings to not push you over one of the biggest, most beautiful waterfalls in the world? Won’t look too pretty whilst plunging to the bottom :(

  2. Ujala says:

this is so beautiful. you’re so lucky!!! Zimbabwe definitely added to my places to visit in the future :)

  3. Margaret Boyle says:

OK – let the adults be foolish; but jeez, leave the kids out of it. Just one baby step; just one itty bitty thing; just one slip of the toe; and see ya! I cannot believe a parent or any sane person would allow children to do this! I don’t care how “safe” it’s supposed to be – accidents do happen. “But that time of year…it was supposed to be perfectly safe” is some cold comfort when they are standing at the gravesite of their dead child – assuming the body is even found to have a gravesite. Dead as surely as if the guy had pushed them over. Call Child Protective Services!

  4. alex smith says:

  13. AJ says:

    OMG! So scary!!!

  14. Marie Potgieter says:

Wow this looks amazing and scary at the same time. Would love to visit someday. Excitement and fear go hand in hand.

  15. kimko says:

That is pretty darn cool. I can just see the feelings of exhilaration!

  16. amanda says:

So no one has EVER fallen off this thing? That’s insane.

Even with the assurance that I’d be safe, I think i’d bee too much of a scaredy cat to go right to the edge :P

    It looks awesome though

  17. creea says:

my stomach was doing flip-flops while looking at these pics!

  18. WafflePrince says:

Wow! I hope I will have a swim there one day. That place is crazy.

  19. zelot66 says:

It’s beautiful. But looks very dangerous…:))

  20. Bobma says:

Well I was there in the 70′s and the pool can’t have been open as the falls were in full flow, but I would say from the pictures that they seem to be taken from the Zambian side. (we visited both sides)

  21. HATER says:

Margaret Boyle— Wow the kid is fine. worry about your own childern. this is a once in a life time experience and it is very safe the kid won’t fall off, it’s not like he dad is holding him over the edge out of the water. jeeze get a life, have some fun, and take some risks.

  22. clay0808 says:

omg i have heard about this place and will want to go i also had a dream about it

  23. ahh says:

Oh my god. I saw that black guy in Mexico last week. Holy shit, fucking twilight zone status.

  24. Tabitha says:

I agree with Margaret Boyle. Adults can risk their own lives all they want, but kids can’t understand how dangerous this is. Those parents (especially red speedo guy) are just stupid.

  25. Gen says:

It has to be, and if you look carefully you can see that this is the case, that the edge of the Devil’s Pool is high enough that the waterfall water flowing over it is shallow and moves slowly. Don’t be silly, of course it’s safe. Other parents do not want to lose their children any more than you do. You can see the parents are hanging carefully on to children, and you can see by looking at the woman posing in a flying position on the edge of the pool, that the water slipping by her is shallow.

  26. SamuraiMarine says:

Makes my stomach flutter just thinking about it. Pretty, though.

  27. luck says:

    Great pic!

  28. Bang Ancis says:

Hmmm very great your pic Sir… I’m loved it

  29. Ed says:

Whew, I would worry about the corrosive force of waterflow, even slow waterflow at the times when you can get close to the edge. My luck a big chunk of the edge would give way with me near it!

  30. DickPuller says:

It takes all sorts . I agree with Tabitha and Margeret boyle .

Might seem safe , thats up to the Adults , but why have your kids right near the edge ? Madness .

  31. zwenkwiel says:

i get scared shitless standing on the edge of a high rooftop
with water rushing past my feet i wouldn’t even think about standing on the edge like that no matter how safe it’s presumed to be. :S

  32. gmkomd says:

I bet if one of these clowns fell their relatives would sue the travel company for not having a fence up

  33. shortnorth01 says:

I’m thinking photoshop had something to do with it.

  34. Kim Randall says:

These are absolutely AMAZING! Makes me wanna see it IRL.

  35. Chezfisto says:

I already wanted to go to Zimbabwe after I found out if I did that I could be a Trillionaire just by changing a few US dollars into the local currency..

  36. jsjshakjkakj says:

I don’t care how safe it is supposed to be, you have to be some sort of idiot to be that close to the edge and any even bigger idiot to have your young child that close. Some people are so freaking STUPID!!!! It is so hard to believe that people can be that careless with the lives of their children. One wrong movement and a beautiful moment could turn into a tragedy.

  37. Chip says:

Kinda reminds me of Michael Jackson dangling his son, Prince Michael II, over the hotel balcony railing in Berlin.

  38. zhaiduo says:

    really cool!

  39. taner okutan says:

  41. C Satch says:

Holy cow are these people nuts! I wouldn’t stand that close to the edge, does look amazing though :)

  42. mary says:

I feel like they were photoshopped…
I really like the pictures, don’t get me wrong, but.
I don’t think people are that insane. And the girl that’s jumping and stuff?
    Come on.

  43. Jen says:

If you look up “devil’s swimming pool” on the ZImbabwe Mail website you will see that someone recently did go over the edge and the safari guide that tried to rescue him died in the process too.

  44. AnGkEr says:

crazy stuff ……wouldn’t the rocks be slippery?…..but is kinda awesome…

  45. Ian says:

None of these pictures are photoshoped. They are all very real! And whist they are of Vic Falls the Devils Pool itself can only be accessed from the Zambian side of the falls, not Zimbabwe. Used to live in Zambia and went to the Devils Pool on several ocassions. Truly awesome experience and not for the feint hearted! Yes it could be potentially deadly but if you are carefull it is pretty safe to do.

  46. GRILLirious says:

Why anybody would endanger their child by allowing them to swim there is beyond me. They should be arrested for child endangerment.

  47. Scott Kelsey says:

WOW…. what a place to go and see. These photos made my legs hurt looking at them.

  48. Terron says:

For all you people whom are speaking of danger, do you put your kids in the car and drive them places? O, well thats dangerous, so you should be shot in the face, right? No! All of the new world needs to stop being so afraid, and expecially to judge those who are not. You are all very judgemental and need to keep your cowardly opinions to yourselves, because the world is sick of you ruining life for the rest of us!

  49. Alejandra says:

    Damn!!! that’s awesome!!!!

  50. Terron says:

You cowards are ruining life for everyone else (Miss Margaret Boyle) Hey how about this, you don’t take your kids there and give them an experience of a lifetime. Meanwhile you shut up and quit judging everyone, you put you kids in the car and drive them to school do you not? Does this mean someone should punish you? It does not. It is all you self righteous over judging people whom think their opinion matters more than anyone elses, that are ruining the world and humanity. Its all a matter of perspective, and your perspective is ill informed, and incorrect about what is important in life
